How much sleep does your 4 month old have in the day?

DS2's nights have been terrible the last day or so, but I don't think it's because of hunger.

I haven't really structured his sleep at all, he's just done his own thing and generally it's worked out pretty well, but now i'm wondering whether i should srtucture it a bit more to try and make the nights better again.

He tends to have 4 x 45 min naps between 7 am and 7 pm, but sometimes one will be longer, in which case he may have 3 naps instead, IYSWIM. It'd not set in stone though, it can vary quite a bit.

He's ready to sleep 2 hours after waking, generally.

I'd be interested to know what other babies of his age do - can't remember what DS1 did, but I know he slept through - grrr, Ds2 was up at 9.30pm, 1.30 am, 3.30 am, 4.20 am and 5.30 am - yawn

DD is 20wks and has 4x30min naps during the day and sleeps 6pm-6am at night (waking for 2 feeds during that time). If she randomly decides to sleep longer at one nap then like your DS she'll have one less nap.

If she sleeps any longer than 2.5hrs in the day then she is awake for an hour or so in the night which I do not appreciate!

Jojay- check out the thread that about a million people are on at the moment....something like 'for all you with 4 and 5 month olds who won't sleep'. Thankfully we're past the 4 month sleep regression but there are lots of people on there who are having the usual 4 month sleep problems and you will see that you're not alone, it's hard to solve the 'problem' and that it will indeed end one day.

Check it out....you might get some good advice!

thanks, i'll have a look.

He's had one very rosy cheek today so it could be the start of teething rahter than anything else, so we'll see how the night goes.

I have heard of the 4 month sleep regression, just naively thought it might not happen, as DS1 was such a star.

HA! Having 4 month sleep shenanigans here too. As for daytimes, well, anything goes. Sometimes he'll sleep for 15 mins sometimes a good hour. If we go out for a long walk he'll often snooze the whole time...

I found that thread lovelymama - thank you - lots of us in the same boat it seems!

Saying that, he was great last night. Wentdown at 7, sleepy dreamfeed at 10 ish, he cried out briefly at 1 ish but went back to sleep till 4.30, then through till 7.15- not bad!! I fell as fresh as a daisy this morning after some decent kip!

Lets hope they all start to settle down a bit now
