why is my DD pooing after feed at 2am? She's 22 wks

help is there anything to do to stop this? she is taking a big bottle at630pm then goes till 2/230am but last 2 nights has done a poo after the feed and she then wakes up when I change her nappy and takes up to an hour to resettle. Any suggestions! my mum did the change and resettling last night, I'm dreading tonight

maybe will re-post in the morning as I'm off to bed soon and am desperate to sort this out
I dropped the 1030 feed because she was taking hardly anything, less than 2 oz the last time I did it. didnt' seem worth when I knew she could do a long stretch without it. really trying to get her to sleep thru. She's waking at about 6.30 or 7 after the 2.30 feed.

not sure about re-introducing 1030 feed as have only dropped it for about a week. if i change again might be confusing for her?? guess i could try tho. sh pooed again at 1am. I was up for 11/2 hrs.

titfer Is she pooing always after a feed at 1/2am or just pooing anyway (ie: regardless of whether she feeds)? If its after a feed I would try re-introducing the 10.30 feed (esp. if she doesn't poo after this?). It might be confusing but she will get used to it after a couple of days. She might have trouble resettling at 1/2am as she is waking up on her own and could be more awake - I assume she slept till 7am when you did 10.30 feed so she has been used to the day starting when she wakes naturally - IYSWIM?? If you wake her at 10.30 she might be more sleepy and find it easier to go back to sleep, even if she does poo??

PS - if she does poo do you do nappy change in the dark (well as dark as you can manage?), also rather than cold babywipes maybe use some warm water and cotton wool, just an idea.

choc thanks for this I take yr point, and yes she does poo straight after feed at 230. And she is waking up for this feed as opposed to being asleep when we did dream feed. Will do one at 11pm tonight and see what happens after that. Thanks for helping me see this situation clearly! I do the change in the dark (one nightlight that's always on) but not sure I'd be organised enough to get warm water ready...

titfer it's a cycle and you just have to grit your teeth and remember that it will pass.

ds went through a phase when he was about 20weeks of pooing at 2am (mind you he was still feeding every 2hrs) AND it was shooting out the back/legs of his nappy and soaking through his jammies into OUR bed. He did it 4-5 nights running (I remember it was my birthday that week and I wept myself stupid after the 3rd night) and then... IT STOPPED.

If she has a 10/11pm feed does she sleep through until 6:30/7 or does she still wake up for a feed?

doing 11pm feed has stopped the pooing - yay!

however she's still waking for a feed at 330 - or at least that's what she did last night - and then my husband brought her into our bed at 6ish because he had to get up, so she was on the boob for a bit then.

So bloody confusing. What are you supposed to do when they start waking for a feed at 530 or 6ish ie only an hour or 2 before they wake up?

the thought of stretching her ie making her wait 15 min for a feed at 5.30 am fills me with dread but i'll do whate ver i can to help her sleep for longer/get closer o sleeping thru ...

titfer my LO used to wake at 5.30am so instead of doing a dream feed at 11 we wake him at 10 and keep him up for 1 hour - 5 out of the last 7 nights he's gone 11-6.30/7.

Worth a try?

wow chocorange that's great. will see how this week goes, off to the states next week so all sleeping will be out the window anyway, sob.

Will try the waking up at 10 thing maybe when I get back. would be nice if hubby did that bit...

My DH does it but he's "allowed" to choose one night off a week. He's wonderfully supportive and he agrees its his fair share (he basically does 50% of the childcare when he's at home).

Good luck and let me know how it goes! (BTW - when she is going till 7 for 2/3 weeks you can start to reduce the time by 5 mins every few days (apparently) until its a dreamfeed again - so you can tell DH its not forever!)
