Shattered after weekend away from hell - advice on travel cots...

Would be REALLY grateful for advice on giving up travel cots. DS (15 mths) would not sleep this weekend at my parents (AGH!) - just wondering if he's too big/old for his travel cot, or suddenly developed a dislike for being away from home. He hasn't had much experience of sleeping in new places, but he should know his grandparents house by now, so assume that can't be the reason. He's a BIG baby, maybe travel cots have just become too uncomfortable when he's used to the space of a normal cot. Would love to know whether others have had to give up on travel cots so young.....Thanks

Travel cots are quite hard. My ds had grown out of his by 18 months. You could go for a first readybed (inflatable) which might be more suitable.

or you can buy an extra mattress as they are hard. They are about £25ish (I expect you can get them for less online/ebay etc)
Our 15 month DD has always hated our travel cot until we stayed at a friend's house whose travel cot had 2 mattresses in ad she slept brilliantly!! If I find somewhere good online I'lllet you know. I just asked in mamas and Papas out of curiosity and their spare mattress was £25 which I thought was reasonable and as I say I am sure you can get it cheaper..

Mine (all big babies) have never slept well in a travel cot even with an extra mattress. You could try a readybed, but they didn't really work for us either as they seem to get very hot in them. Could you try a regular bed with a side guard rail?

Ds2 (12mo) hates travel cots. Even with an extra mattress. We've just had a long weekend away and ended up having to bring him into bed with us (which we never do at home).

I've decided not to go away again for any length of time until he's safe in a normal bed (ds1 was from about 16 months onwards) or there is a proper cot available.
