Ds 1 year old will nap for an hour in the car or buggy and wakes up happy. In the cot he will sleep for no more than 30 mins and wakes up miserable and stays that way for the rest of the day until his next nap. At night he sleeps 4 - 5 hours at a time in the cot. How is this possible and any tips on how he can stay asleep for longer. Please help I am spending too much on petrol and ruining the planet at the same time and my legs are going to drop off with the walking and I need new shoes

my ds is the same. i find that if i leave him for 5 mins or so he will usually go back to sleep and wake later in a better mood.

sometimes he isn't really ready to get up iykwim so let him cry for a few mins and see if he drifts off again.

My DS1 was similar. I found that if I was there to comfort him before he was awake then he would just stir a bit and then sleep the rest of the hour. It only worked because DS would sleep for EXACTLY 40 minutes so I could set a timer! He eventually started sleeping through the 40 minutes and would have 2.5hours [bliss]

The problem is that as soon as he wakes he cries and won't stop until I pick him up and take him downstairs. I have tried sitting in the room with him whilst he sleeps and patting him as soon as he wakes but it doesn't work. It's like he's saying "I want to play not be asleep".

All I can say is SNAP! 30 mins nap is all that my DD will do-4 times a day if I am lucky then is cranky & overtired by the end of the day as has had no proper restful sleep. It is exhausting me & no amount of shusshing or patting works to get her back to sleep. Her eyes just ping open without warning, cries & there is no chance of getting her back to sleep. It is so difficult to plan my day esp as I am ignoring my toddler spending so long getting the babe to sleep which is creating problems Feel like I have tried everything (she is 6 mths) & can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.
