I want some reassurance

My baby is 13 weeks old and appears to be going backwards in terms of sleep. I am looking for some reassurance that this has happened to other babies and it will get better.

From about 6 weeks to 11 weeks he fed at 10pm and then slept from 11 to 7am. (He has never settled before this 10pm feed, but that's another story).

However, 2 weeks ago he started waking at 3am for food and it takes me ages to settle him back. He has now started waking up at 3, 5 and 6 and last night wouldn't settled down at all and only had 5 hours sleep all night. Food wouldn't even settle him.

I feel like I have a new born again - is this common? He is totally breast fed and I just feel like he's not being satisifed. Although is not feeding excessively in the day and only feeds at 3am.

I had similar prob with ds and at 1 point i was so tired I understood how people could hurt a baby - but obviously I didn't.

Prob with my ds was that he was hungry - for real food - in desperation I gave him some baby rice and he never look back - might be worth trying

mine did the same, went from one long sleep followed by another 3 hours or so, and sometimes sleeping through - to waking every 2 hours. i was exhausted and ended up co-sleeping to cope and am so glad we did as i love it. it passed and now we're onto less frequent feeding again. i think they are just so small and the pattern they start with isn't the one they keep. hang in there!

Chumpbaby there is a growth spurt at roughly 13 weeks which lasts a couple of weeks or so. It is very unlikely your milk isn't satisfying him - well done for getting to 13 weeks by the way - pop over to the breast/bottle feeding board if you need some more info on the growth spurt thing as I'm not very clear on it.

It's not recommended to give solids before 6 months to a breastfed baby and certainly not before 17 weeks, I would look into it carefully if you want to do that.

Or you could have hit the 4 month sleep regression a few weeks early! Look at the first page of the 4-5 month sleep club thread on here if you want.

Good luck!
