Since my little boy was around five and half months the situation has become progressively worse and he is now waking every one to tow hours. We have tried Pantleys No Cry Sleep ...no great progress there.

I have just read The Good Sleep Guide by Angela Henderson and considering putting her sleep programme into action. However this involves allowing my baby to cry himself to sleep without being picked up etc - something I said I would never do.

Has anyone tried her tecnique and come out the other side? Will my child ever forgive me, will it really all be sorted in three days?

We can not continue as we are as I am so exhausted I can not function properly for my child during the day and I think he is tired too.

Sorry this is brief I am tired and realise I had written all this before in the wrong place!

Hope to have some feed back ..... take care of you and your little ones.

My son is nearly 8 months and has never slept through. I haven't tried the good sleep guide, but last night I tried the controlled crying method. He did go back to sleep, but it took 2 hours. He seemed fine in the morning, and I dont think he hated me for it.
I've had to "train" him to sleep longer. At first i wouldn't feed him or pick him up unless he had gone 3 hours. I just kept giving him his dummy, stroaking his face, and talikng to him gently. This could last between 20 mins and an hour and a half, but after a couple of nights, he would sleep longer. He now go's down at 8 and may wake a couple of times, but I can normally give him his dummy and he go's to sleep again. Then I feed him at 1am, and wont get him up or feed him till 7am. Now this is not perfect, as i still get up between 4-5 times a night. But I think we're getting there. Tonight i have decided that I'm not feeding him at 1am, so not sure how that will go!!

Good luck

Hi, minty, I have just posted elsewhere that I had v good experience with CC with DS1: it literally took 2 nights to get him to sleep through (usually ), and he cried 17 min the first night and 9 the second.
He seems no more disturbed than the next mad 5 year old and assures me that I am "the best mummy in the world" - I take that as forgiveness.
When he was 8 month old and we were desperate we gave him a feed, kissed him good-night, put him down and left room. He went ballistic, we waited 1 min (time set on microwave ), went back in, patted him, said "night-night, time to sleep, see you in the morning" or some such thing and went back out again, waited 2 min, repeat, waited 3 min, repeat, etc. I HAD to set the timer to go "ping" for me because in my head I knew that a baby crying for 1 min is really not coming to any harm, but without timer I do not think I could have stayed out of room long enough.
He has been a good sleeper ever since, apart from the usual: teething, illness, night mare..
Good luck, I hope you find a solution! Or, remind yourself that once he is 16 you will be unable to get him out of bed long enough to change his sheets .

First of all, Minty - you have my complete sympathy. I have my own thread on here for similar woes and it's bloody rotten. I feel like I'm walking around in a bubble, I'm so tired - sorry I can't offer advice but at least I can say, you're not alone.

Secondly, do people really think CC is okay? I've been brave enough on MN to admit I give DS pureed food rather than BLW and that I buy things from Boden, but I feel like admitting to considering CC might be a declaration too far !

Seriously, how long is okay with CC?
