I've recently posted about struggling as a SAHD in the parenting thread but have another issue with DS regarding his sleep.
DS, 16 months (I said 17 months in other thread, duh!) has always gone to sleep with relatively no problem. We gave him his milk, a quick cuddle and plonked him in his cot and he went to sleep.
However, over the last 2/3 weeks the same thing happens about 80% of the time when he goes down for his naps or night time sleep. I'll put him in his cot as normal and leave his room. He'll be quiet for about 5/10 minutes and then start to cry. This will very quickly escalate into the most hysterical screaming you could imagine. Like he's terrified or being tortured. I will then go in to him and pick him up and cuddle him until he calms down (after a few minutes). Then I put him back into his cot and he'll start to cry. I leave the room and then the crying turns to that hysterical crying again. Then I'll leave him screaming for 5 minutes and then he'll fall asleep on his own for the night or sometimes I have to go in and do it all again with another 5 minutes but usually then that's enough.
I have to go through this for his naps too.
His waking has changed too. He used to wake up and chat and giggle to himself for half an hour and then cry and I'd get him up. Now, coinciding with the screaming to sleep, when he wakes in the morning or after his naps he's instantly hysterical, screaming his little head off sometimes in the same way he does before he sleeps.
Anyone else experienced this?
For your info his sleep times are:
30 minutes napin the morning around about 9.30am
90 minute to 2 hour nap in afternoon at 1.30pm.
He goes to bed at 7pm and wakes at 5-5.30am (this has coincided with the start of the screaming to sleep/wake up problem - before that he used to wake between 6am and 6.45am).
TIA for any help again!
