Aargh! How come my 14mth old will only sleep for 30 mins during the day? Is this normal?

DS2 is 14 months and never had long sleeps during the day, but now he has dropped his morning nap (which was never long anyway), and he still only sleeps for 30-45 (if I'm lucky) mins around 1pm. And that's it. He won't go to sleep again until he goes to bed around 6.30pm. He does normally sleep thru till at least 6am, but DS1 had about 3 hours sleep a day - I know all DC's are diff but 30 mins a day for a baby seems a little ridiculous!

Mine does this - sometimes she will sleep longer but often it's 30 mins or even no nap at all

It's nearly the same for our DS, he'll be a year old this Friday, and for the last week or so he will not have more than 30 mins sleep in his cot in the daytime. I've tried patting him back to sleep which used to work but not any longer. I actually stayed with him the other morning to be there as soon as he woke to pat him back and it was like he just woke up startled and upset. He will not go back to sleep, but he's still really tired and upset. The other day he cried for a whole hour after waking. It gets me really upset and stressed too. We have a lovely time together, but when I look back on a day, it's these times after the short naps which stay in my mind
