How noisy is your newborn during the night??

Our ds (our first) I think I remember was quite "noisy" at night but I used to sleep in the spare room right by his room so could hear some but not everything.

This time our newborn DD seems to be quite noisy making funny mewing noises (like a cat) the odd whimper etc and when i check on her she is lying there quite peacefully. She was a section baby so was getting a bit upset at night when she was bringing up bits of liquid which ran down her face (getting rid of the liquid not squeezed out by natural birth I suppose) - poor little thing just kept getting wet neck so I was up and down trying to put something dry near her.

How noisy is your newborn ???

Ds1 was very noisy and kept me awake for ages squeaking and grunting etc. You know how it is. PFB and you jump to attention with the slightest muscle twitch

I don't think Ds2 is as noisy but i don't know whether he is really quieter or whether I've just learnt to ignore any noise that isn't a full on cry.

My ds was avery noisy newborn, he would grunt like a pig most of the night lol. He was a section baby but im not sure if this makes a difference as he was still like it a 4 weeks and it was so bad we put him in his own room as i was forever waking up just because he was so noisy.

OH ds2 was terrible, he'd grunt reaaly loudly as thogh constipated and you'd look over and he would be fast asleep, 2 hours later he'd do a massive fart and be fine. Used to drive me insane. Took him to an osteopath though and that sorted him out!

herbgarden · 27/01/2009 20:59

I took ds to a cranial osteopath too when he would scream every night putting him to bed. She sort of sorted him out.

So far DD is too little for us to tell what will happen when she wakes from her newborn slumber....she goes from sleeping all day to there being no obvious point at which she's awake ! I won't complain just yet but also won't be lulled into a false sense of security - this happened with DS and he then was a nightmare for about weeks 5 - 9 when he'd scream during that witching period of 7 - 10pm.....

I just couldn't really remember whether he was quite so noisy or not !

8 w/o ds grunts like a little piglet and yelps like a dog for about 30-40 mins when settling and before waking. Also snores so he is now sleeping in his own big boy room so I can get some kip between night feeds!

CatIsSleepy · 28/01/2009 12:56

oh dd was very noisy-she used to grunt and wriggle furiously whilst somehow still being asleep. Was so bad sometimes i had to go and sleep in another room. Am hoping the next one will be more peaceful as we don't have a spare room any more!

elizabethbob · 28/01/2009 19:27

Mine is SO noisy!! He grunts and clicks and squeaks and yelps between all feeds after the 1030pm one. Really frustrating and never know whether he's about to wake up and start crying but every time I look at him his eyes are closed and he's lying there without a care in the world! He's 8 weeks.

JanuarySnail · 30/01/2009 12:09

Oh god 6 w/o is the same - SO noisy - grunting, snorting, snuffling, crying, yelping for about 45 to 1 hour when put down at night (and usually also a crying nightmare between 7pm and 10pm).

But she's very sweet otherwise and a dream compared to DD1.

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 31/01/2009 20:17

the baby that I am night nannying at the moment used to be a very noisy sleeper! He would "grumble" for most of the night with his little eyes firmly closed.

Now that he is older (12 weeks) and can sleep through the night, he is much quieter although he is still sometimes noisy if he feeds between 5.30 and 6.30.
