3/4 am wakey thing? Do they grow out of it?

Just wondered if anyone knows anyone or has any experience of their lo's growing out of the 3am/4am waking for feed. My ds is 16 weeks and feeds at 7pm but wakes at 3/4 for feed.Has been doing this since 9 weeks! He is definatley hungry as he takes whole bottle very quickly. Have tried dreamfeeding but unfortunatley did not work for us. Any ideas ?

My dd stopped waking for this early feed at about 5 1/2 months. One night she just didnt wake up - of course it was the night that dh said he would get up with her - typical!!

my dd is 5 mths now, she had that 4 am wakey thing, and yes she just grew out of it. i really cant think of anything that did it, she just stopped. she still has the very occasional night that she still does that, but she doesnt cry, just chats to herself for 20 mins or so then goes back to sleep on her own

My lo is 9 months old and still waking up for the 3/4 am feed. Have just started to dilute feed so will let you know if I can get her to cut it out.

Nailpolish & Seona - Just wondered if your lo's were on solids when they stopped? Have been thinking about tying baby rice very soon.

Yes, my dd was on solids. She started at about 4 months (which was the recommended age at the time). That could have had something to do with it as she would have been increasing the amount of solids that she took at that time.

Sleepymama, I really think solids are overrated as a way of getting more sleep. Made no difference to my ds at all.

Hi my ds is five months and still waking 04-05 has been wening for 1 month made a small amount of difference. wonder if its to do with weight how long they sleep through. my ds 7 weeks early so is only just now 13lbs. friends babies 3 month 16lbs sleeping through. anyone have an opinion. sorry not much help. live in hope like you

That sounds like a good theory donnacb , not sure if it works though. My ds is 16 weeks and 12 1/2 lbs. DS had last lot of jabs yesterday and developed a temperature. I increased his feeds by an ounce each time and he slept half an our longer . He's very windy now though!
He has a couple of times slept 10 hours when he was about 10 weeks but not since. I don't know whether he's waking out of habit or not now. He still takes the bottle in 15 mins at 3am so seems v.hungry!

sleepymama, no, shes still not on solids yet. honestly, he'll grow out of it (oh i hope so for your sake!) one morning youll wake up and get the fright of your life cos hes not woken at all and its 7am!

Oh I really hope so nailpolish - I am very sleep deprived . I was getting his feed ready last night at 3.30am and put in in bed with me for a couple of minutes (not a good thing I know) and he fell asleep. He whimpered a bit but as soon as I put him back in crib he screamed the place down for 20 mins!!!
Strange thing is that he wakes a couple of times between 7am - 3am (something he never used to do) but I pop his dummy in and he goes back to sleep. But if I try this at 3/4 it doesn't work. Guess he must be hungry......

Last night we diluted feed to 6oz water to 2oz formula. She woke at 2am and it wasn't until 5.30am that she stopped crying. When she first woke up she talks and plays. After 30 mins or so she starts to gently cry. After giving her the diluted milk she went back down which was about 3am and then the crying started within 20 mins. Tried the controlled crying thing but in 9 months we have never experienced her crying like this. She settled at about 5.30am but still wimpering (which made me cry) and woke at 7am and took 6oz milk. We are getting very tired but we are persevering. I'm sure it is a bad habit but I do worry that she is genuinely hungry.

omg last night worst night ever.
ds up ever hour and half from 10.30 pm onwards.
Fed at 12 as he would not stop crying. Then cried for hour at 5am. Bought into my bed where he fell asleep. Put back into cot at 6am. Awake crying by 6.30am. Fell asleep in my bed until 7.15 am.
He's been sleeping up to 4 and half hours during the day. Don't know whats happening.
Someone please help!!!!

Maybe you could try to limit the amount of sleep lo has during the day. At 16 weeks my lo was sleeping for half an hour three to four times a day. Going to bed at 7pm - 8 am and waking once during the night. Might be worth a go.

Sleepymama. could he be coming down with something? My dd has disrupted sleep like that if she is brewing a cold/ ear infection/teething etc. Try giving calpol/baby nurofen before bed to see if that helps at all
