Natures Nest and the move to a cot

Hi.
My 16 weeks old girl has been sleeping in her Natures' Nest (our best baby purchase). I think she is a good sleeper and settles herself well during day and night with one night feed.

I keep thinking of the day when we will have to move her to a cot (probably around 8 month old) so she is used to sleep in a cot before she goes to nursery. To be honest I'm dreading that day and want to hear from people who moved their babies to cots from the hammock and the ways they have done it.

I tried to put her for a nap in her cot once and she screamed so much I had to feed her to stop the crying.

DD moved from her Amby to a cot bed at around 8 months. I put lots of rolled up blankets down the side of the cots so that the space seemed more cosy and then gradually took them away. She was a bit unsettled for a couple of nights , but then was absolutely fine.

Thanks for the reply. When you said that she was unsettled - what did you do to settle her back to sleep, please? With the hammock I find it easy to "rock" her back to sleep but when she's in the cot, do I pick her up?

Yes - I think I ended up rocking/cuddling her to sleep in my arms a couple of times

I think the Amby's are great and will definitely use one again but I did get myself into a bit of a state thinking it was some kind of miracle worker and I'd never be able to get dd to sleep but it was absolutely fine.... and the cuddles were much nicer

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm the same - i think that the nest is great. Will stop worrying about moving her into the cot.

Over the last month we've moved our 9.5mth old from natures nest to cot, and it has been fairly difficult. However don't think it's all related to the move - he's also learned to crawl/stand up/had colds/sickness bugs/teething all of which have disturbed his sleep.

Our ds is actually now (finally!) sleeping better at night in the cot, however is struggling with going down for daytime naps, whereas in the nest we could just lie him down and walk away..

I think the previous poster's suggestion of rolled up towels sounds like a good idea, and wish I'd tried that!

I used one with ds1 and 2 and the move to the cot was fine. We did it at about 1 year old with both of them. On the advice of the company itself, we used a sheepskin in the amby. They got used to sleeping on that and then we used it in the cot. They also had soft doll things they slept with. Both these things helped a lot.

My very sleep resistant DS2 had real problems adjusting to the cot after the natures nest. I used controlled crying after trying everything else. It took a couple of nights and was not too bad and although he is still a rubbish sleeper he will, at least, settle back in the cot - mostly!

Rolledhedgehog - was he a good sleeper in the nest? At what age did you move him to the cot?

To everyone: at the moment i don't have any toys / mobiles around the nest. Do you think it's a good idea to get a mobile over the cot when make transition?
