Are dummies the root of all evil...or am I just looking for something to blame???

DS 18 weeks old, has always been ok sleeper, not brilliant but certainly better than some. About 5/6 weeks ago we successfully got him self settling, with a dummy, and although his bed time was, and is, later than we'd like we were getting runs of 6-7 hours, then a bottle and another hour or 2 so quite happy with that. Got him going down a bit earlier now but we suddenly started getting these 3am wakings, he isnt hungry, doesnt cry and would generally put himself back off after lots of fidgeting and leg slamming. This has now progressed to whimpering and not resettling until dummy is back in, and it seems whenever he is a lighter phase of sleep he starts the leg slamming and is suddenly aware of no dummy. Last night he had me up near enough very hour and a half, scrabbling round under his bloody cot. My dp has been great nd given me lots of lie in's over the xmas period but I'm a pants sleeper and the thought of going backwards is just yuck when I really felt we were getting somewhere. So is this just the dreaded 4 month thing or is it dummy and we need to go cold turkey or am I destined to be up every hour from here on in.....

My advice is ditch the dummy AND put a sheet over him (tightly tucked in with towels) so that the leg slamming doesn't wake him up. Both things were a godsend for getting my DD to sleep through. Good luck

Oh and once you have done both those things you'll know if he wakes up its due to the 4 month growth spurt and a bottle/boob will send him off nicely again

My DD had a night feed at around 3 or 4am until she was on 3 meals a day at 6 months. They really need the extra calories until then unless you're still giving him a dreamfeed?
