Well my ds is 12 months and thought we had started sleeping through the night as had 2 weeks of 9-7 sleeping at 6 months then he started spitting his dummy out and refusing to take it at all so we now dont sleep through any more and he has to be rocked to sleep in my bed!! everytime i try to get him to sleep!!!!

he also wakes up a few times a nite as well and i can only get him to sleep again in my bed rocking him i had hoped it was only temporay but 6 months later its still as bad as ever HELP!!!!

he sleeps for 1 half to two hours at lunch time and 45 mins at about 5pm.

any suggestions welcome. samie

Hi Samie,

My ds is EXACTLY the same - i am trying to follow Elizabeth Pantley's 'The no cry sleep solution' as I can't bear to do controlled crying like everyone keeps telling me too! SO no advice but I am in the same boat! Will let you know if it works...

Well I'll tell you what I wish I had done when my DS was 12m but I never had the guts/heart to do...

Sit with him next to his cot until he goes to sleep and gradually withdraw over a period of days/weeks. He will cry and it will take a few nights before he even begins to settle, but you won't be leaving him, you can reassure him and stroke his back etc, and he will be okay. Much nicer than CC, which I would never do.

I tried the NCSS but it didn't work for us at all - it is still worth a go though. The longer you keep rocking him etc the longer he will need it. It's fine whilst you are okay with doing it, but it won't be long before he is so heavy that it becomes a real problem

In the end we just co slept until very recently (he is now 2.4). But I do wish I had done the above at 12m. I wonder how I will be with DC2 who is due in a week or so? Probably just the same as DS Good luck!
