He's been singing, crying, and now moaning for 1 hour 20 mins. I'm beginning to get the hint that he doesn't want to fall asleep. He's 9 months, btw.

That's a long time. Try again when he's so tired that he can't help himself. Go give him cuddles.

I normally give ds an hour at most, but then get him up and he's so tired from fighting it! Wish someone would put me back in bed, if only they knew......

I had a whole day of this yesterday, and my dd is 12 months old. All the tiredness signs were there, but she just wouldn't go to sleep! Singing, playing, finally crying. I left her for 2 hours altogether, thinking she was just about to settle down. The only sleep she got all day - despite being put back in the cot and then a walk in the baby carrier - was 20 mins in the car. Don't know what got into her. But she slept solidly that night.
