DD has slept for 5 minutes all day - what do I do tonight?

She's 15 months. She needs about 2 hours sleep in the day or she is awake more than hourly all night. Today though she wouldn't sleep at all, I think it's a mixture of teething and her cold.

So what should I do tonight eg. what time to put her to bed etc. Any other advice?

Advice would also be appreciated on not having a nervous breakdown over it this evening TIA.

my dds gave up naps im afraid at 12 mths but found if i put him to bed around 6 he was settled

make sure you raise head of cot put pillow under mattress to help her cold and give some nurofen or calpol at bed time to help with teething pain and cold and hopefully she will settle well sorry havent any other advise as my ds just dropped naps at 12 mths and that was that lol

bubblagirl · 21/11/2008 16:42

my ds that should say not dds

CharCharGabor · 21/11/2008 16:45

Thanks bubblagirl. I don't think she wants to drop them yet as she normally has one. I will try the nurofen though. Can't raise the end of the cot as she's all over the place so she'd end up in a really awkward position.

I'm dreading tonight tbh, I know she's going to be up all the time and I could really do with a rest. I tried and tried all day but she just wouldn't sleep.

Can you start 'winding her down' now? Take a bath with her (the steam will ease her congestion), lights down low, stories, cuddles, milk, sleepy music (whatever you usually do, only drawn out). Maybe an extended period of relaxing will help her to settle?

CharCharGabor · 21/11/2008 17:26

Thanks Pen. She's just having her tea now so I'll start the relaxing after that. She's not very good at winding down but I'll give it a go. I really hope she settles.

How did it go? Is she sleeping ok? Hope you're alright.

Is she getting molars/canines? They're just awful and often there's no other sign than the sleep goes out the window/toddler is cranky.

CharCharGabor · 22/11/2008 08:41

Sorry forgot to check this thread again She actually only got up once before I went to bed but it took a good half hour to get her back to sleep. Then she came in with me in the early hours.

I think she's getting top canines, some molars and two bottom ones too. Her gums are very swollen. I can't wait til they come through, she's been teething these for a good 10 weeks now.

DS was at it for FIVE MONTHS CharChar -- now has four molars and top two canines. Aaaagh!

CharCharGabor · 22/11/2008 14:14

Oh God ches don't say that! I can see them pressing so hard against the gums, surely they can't take that long! She's had a good 2 1/4 hour nap today so hopefully she'll sleep better tonight
