Can I put my ten month old to sleep on a mattress on the floor? Anyone else done this?

Ok, so I'm thinking we might want our bedroom back soon and the transfer to the cot just isn't happening (ds likes to sleep diagonally with arms outstretched and the cot just isn't big enough for that).

So, I'm thinking about a mattress on the floor as obviously he is still too small for a bed.

Has anyone else done this? What are the pros and cons? Are there any other options?

Yes

DD was about 11/12 months and I walked in to find her hanging out of the cot

So i took the side off & put a mattress next to the bed - she never slept in the cot again (but I left it there for a few months)

I also put a baby gate on the door

Haven't done it at home but DS sleeps on an airmattress on floor whenever we go camping. Started when he was about 9 mths I think (now 3 and my memory has gone!) Only problem I can think of is that he occasionally rolls off but we just scoop him back up and he rarely wakes up.
It will become a trampoline when he gets a bit bigger

My 9 month old has doen this when we go to Mils and I forget the travel cot
He is not crawling though, so I'd make sure there is nothing at all within crawling distance/reach that he could get at or climb up if he woke up and had a meander in the night...

I did this - it was no trouble at all

I did this until DS1 was 5 ..he wouldn't sleep in his room..grrrr

Ooh thanks for super quick responses. On reflection he looks like he will be crawling soon (is currently moving backwards) so will definitely have to have a tidy up before we get the mattress.
