DS (2.4yrs) is getting out of his cot and getting hysterical at nap times

I don't think he's ready to drop his nap as he is waking early in the morning (6 or earlier most days) and is obviously really tired, once he's finally settled down he sleeps over an hour and still settles well at 8pm for bed.

Any idea what's going on? I've wondered whether to take the sides off the bed if maybe he just doesn't like the containment of the cot. Or will that make it worse?

Thanks ... I've just about had it with putting him back in the cot again and again. I also have 11 month old DD to get to bed and he is waking her.

If he's getting out of his cot he's ready for a bed.

let him rest on the couch in front of a dvd

he may sleep, he may not. give him his duvet if you think it will help

if he doesnt sleep - at least hes had a rest

my dds were in a big bed at 18mths

ok I'll give it a go and hope he likes it enough to want to stay there!

a bed and in the meantime a doze in front of really boring tv, cricket imo, for example.

Oh yes, no kids progs at all. Frasier works a treat as I enjoy it and dd sleeps!

my dd stopped napping at about 18 months... hate to say it but i allways assumed that early mornings were the way to go with kids? six seems quite acceptable to me but maybe im odd? ds was up at 5 15 today although we are in brisbane and its summer time so light mornings now.. dd was also ina bed by 18 months.
