hi new to this but would love some help with my breastfed son who wakes frequently at night. am suffering from no sleep ( have ME too) and he doesn't seem to sleep in the day unless I take him out for walkies! He's 4 months, would love some tips/sugguestions please!

hermykne · 10/03/2005 22:08

soosie
all ican say is have you got him in a routine, at 4mths, my ds totally breastfed, was awake frequently too, however he did go to bed at 7pm and up at 7 from about wk 6. but i keep him to a gina ford routine which helped in me getting sleep when he slept and also i jumped into bed as soon as he was down for thenight and prepared me for the onsluaght.
as i have said before, dont be afraid not to feed him if he has just fed an hour or so since he last woke up in the night.
i know how hard it is but try just to comfort. maybe d/h or d/p can ....
if you think he is getting his feeds in the day then he should be ok to go longer in the night,
#i feel its all about scheduling the feeds in the daytime for a good night.
others will disagree whats your opinion?

Thanks for reply. yes he's really good at going to bed and fals asleep by himself at bout 7pm. Normally he rouses bout 7.30 to start the day.I will try not feeding every time he wakes and see how we get on. I do try and rest in the day if he does but normally its when we r out and about in the pushchair! Just keep telling myself its not 4 ever and sooner or later he'll sleep better.not familiar with gina ford..... who, what she about?

gina ford is one of the 'experts' on baby care - u eithre love hre or hate her methods. Best to try and get her book, read it and make up your own mind. A lot of people take her ideas and 'alter' the routines ot fit with their own lifestyle. I think she is good, but not all babies would fall into her routines easily, but the basics of hre principles are good.
