ok still not sleeping through at nearly 9mths and having 3 bottles at night....

he has 8oz of goodnight milk at 8pm he will sometines wake an hour or so after that and drain another 7oz of normal milk then 2pm and then at 4ish.If im lucky he may only wake at 12 and 4am. He eats loads during the day although the last few days as been refusing food off a spoon so has been experiementing with finger foods,

Sounds like you need to try and cut down on the milk at night and increase his mik & food during the day.

Can't advise much because DS still doesn't sleep through at 14m [pale] but when you say he's eating loads, is it calorie-rich stuff or mostly fruit and veg? And does he take a lot of milk during the day?

Not sure if you're after solutions (I have none) or reassurance (ds did this at this age, and I think it's quite common). Does sound like quite a lot of milk over night, but both of mine were still having at least 2 decent sized feeds at that age overnight, and sometimes more - have you tried giving him less and seeing if he settles, in which case it's probably habit and/or needing it to settle, rather than hunger?

Poor you, though. Miserable getting up so often. I remember thinking "ooh, he's 12 weeks, he'll start sleeping through now" but (and look away if this will depress you) he only started sleeping right through a couple of months ago, and now he wakes ready to start the day at 5.30am.

He has a bottle in the morning and afternoon. Plus 3 meals and deserts.He will normally have a jar at lunchtime then something homemade and heavier for tea like mash,meat and veg and maybe rice pudding. Goodnight milk is meant to be thcker and more filling the normal milk.

im a bit worried as we are having to downsize which means ds2 will be sharing with ds1 whos 4 and i have no idea how im going to manage with them both. I know they will both wake each other up. So im i desperately want to teach ds 2 how to settle himself to sleep or even sleep through.

well, the good news is he's normal!
honestly, very ok for him to still be waking at night, and if he is hungry he needs feeding.

I wouldn't worry too much about putting the kids in together.,
I have just moved my 11 month old in to his brother's room to share (ds1 is 3.5) and it's been fine
was worried because ds2 also wakes up a lot in the night.
last night he was really crying because I couldn't settle him and ds1 just slept right on through lol

I would agree with sleepycat that I doubt they will wake each other. My two (3 and 1) sleep in rooms next to each other but with paper thin walls and NEVER wake despite very regular screaming/wailing etc

Both mine were still waking very regularly at 9 mths, both slept through from 10 months. With DS1 I did CC, but DS2 sorted it himself and he was eating a lot better in the day and also had previously been taking a lot more milk at night. he just sorted it himself.

So I would say if he's waking and taking that much milk, despite eating well in the day, then he needs it so the easiest thing is to go with it and he'll most likely drop feeds himself when he's ready.

Thats reasurring thankyou. Im glad its normal i seem to be the only one out of my friends whos baby doesnt sleep through and it makes you feel worse

You know, mum2samandalex, they're almost certainly not all sleeping through. I used to think that - turns out "sleeping through" meant all sorts of things from "wakes for a dummy 5 times a night but doesn't need milk" to "sleeps from his last bottle at 10pm to 6am" to "has slept through once" to "never sleeps through but I'm not admitting to it because it will make me look like a bad mother".

Aaaah, the whole 'sleeping through' debate! My DS is a bit younger at just over 6 months but right now it feels like he will never, ever sleep through as he wakes so frequently and guzzles milk so fervently all night long.

Saw the MIL today who stated that he should be sleeping through by now and all 3 of hers did.

Actually I am quite pleased to see that you bottle feed and still have this problem mum2samandalex, as I bf and most people think this is to "blame" and I usually end up feeling that they are thinking if I'm daft enough to still be bfeeding at this stage then this is what I get, especially afore mentioned MIL.

As for the HV and all the advice saying they don't need to feed through the night after 6 months, I know my DS does not just comfort suck when he wakes as I can hear him glugging it down. So for now I will assume he knows better.
