I have finally stopped breast feeding 14month old and fingers crossed, she is sleeping alot better...

My 14month old was the biggest booboholic in the world but after 1 night of not letting her bf she stopped asking for milk. Last night was night 3 and she only woke twice for a cuddle and went back to sleep within minutes... Although the first two nights we were awake for hours.

I'm so happy, I can't believe it, I am sooo proud of her. She is still in my bed but I really don't mind that so much as I am happy not to be bf her to sleep all the time, and I fell if she can fall asleep with just a cuddle from me and maybe a song she is finally learning to fall asleep alone.

I think now I will gradually move away, and see how things go. Also she was happy going to sleep last night and not needy or demanding... I love it

MY dd was 14 months too when I decided to give up bf during the night...it was only then she started sleeping through the night. She happliy sleeps for 13 hours now! I'm also loving the sleep too.

My 18 month old is still a boobaholic and I'm really anxious about 'rejecting' him.

Did you have a lot of tears those first couple of nights?

Not really, I just went in and cuddled her, without offering her any, she settled in a few nights. Gave up completely a few weeks later...I missed it more than she did tbh!

I let dd sleep in my bed, and I bought her a dvd of in the night garden. I know it sounds like the wrong thing to do letting her watch dvds but I am a single parent and dredded saying no.

I had a real lazy day with dd on weds and would not bf her to sleep or take her in the pram to nap. So she had to fall asleep with just a cuddle and watcing cartoons.

So she got the idea. The first night we were awke for a few hours, and when she woke I put the dvd on to calm her down, she wa not happy but I think she understood wat was going on. Second night was still not great but better.

But last night was amazing, she was happy to go to bed as was watching dvd (only for 15mins) then when she woke twice all I had to do was give her a cuddle...

Also after the first night she stopped trying to pull my top for milk...

Babies are so clever...

I think my problem was that I always have other things I need to do like cleaning or shopping but you need to try and free up a couple of days to stop bf. Also have ntice she is not so needy during the day.

I really hope it all continues, I kinda feel like I am tempting fate by talking about it so soon but wanted to let other mums know there is a chance...

It is encouraging. I'll find a good time eventually I suppose.

I stopped bf because I wanted to but also felt the reason dd was waking up so many times at night was to bf, for the past two nights she has only woke up twice each night which is a massive improvment, but I agree that will not be the case for every baby.

But as her mum I had a good idea that is what the problem was...
