Sleep - how many hours should a 6 year old need

How many hours sleep should my 6 year old need. Other parents think I put my 6 year old DD to bed too early. She goes at 7.00pm. She sleeps until 7.00am. What is the normal amount of sleep for this age.

6y DD needs about 10-11 hours. She goes to bed between 7:30 and 8pm on a school night, and is up just before 7am most mornings. On weekends she goes to bed a fair bit later, and then sleeps for 10-11 hours from that time - handy for lie ins.

I think 'normal' varies by the child. My DC usually only needed 10-10.5hrs/night at this age, the neighbour's boy at same age could sleep 13 hrs solid. Both within a healthy range.

my DD goes at around 7-7.30, wakes between 6 and 7. I think anything between 10 and 12 hours normal

your lo needs as much as they need and they are all different. Apparently the average is around 10.75 hours per night but of course that is made up of children who need more/less than this figure. If she sleeps 12 hours then she needs that amount of sleep so putting her to bed later could mean she wakes at the same time but is crabbier. Dont try to fix what isnt broken!!

If she's sleeping then she needs it so I wouldn't worry. But 12 hours isn't unusual at that age.
