how to put my 5 and half week old to sleep- HELP

only falls asleep on the breast, or nex to me...not on moses, etc

constantly wants to b carried

i hav alot of pains in my back and shoulders

would your lo fal alseep in the pram while you are walking and then you can leave the pram in the porch, hallway, garden , kitchen etc and hopefully lo will carry on sleeping?

at this age ours would fall asleep in the car seat and carry on sleeping once carried into the house for a bit

cnt use a sling, she hates the pram..dunno wat to do...she only has 10 min naps sdaytime...

nights not a problem, we co-sleep! its daytimes, i cnt get anythign done, as she wants to be held all day!

should i jus let her cry it out, and stop holding her? i try to...but its so hard.

Have you tried swaddling or using a dummy?

I am watching this with interest as my 5 and a half week old is exactly the same. She will sleep in the car or pram, but this is not always practicable. today she has only slept for 30 mins plus some cat naps on the breast- surely she will be exhausted?

I have tried swaddling and a dummy and neither worked for us, she is a very sucky baby but just refuses to take a dummy point blank.

i should say that she sleeps well at night and doesn't need any soothing off then does your LO do this mummy2bsoon?

Can you feed her to sleep lying on your bed, and then creep away when she dozes off?

nite time she is very good, she feeds and sleeps on the breast and then sleeps a good 6 hours, wakes and feeds sleeps anohter 3 hours, its daytime nappin which is a problem...

feedin lyin down not always practical...

When she falls asleep on the breast can you then move her to her crib?

I have a v similar 6 week old. he is slowly slowly getting more 'settled' and able to be reassured with hands etc. A sling is an essential IMO. Didn't get on with it the first time but this time is amazing (have a ring sling and 'murrons pouch' from ebay). My first would sleep in bouncer (catnap) but she would take a dummy.

I think just keep trying, they do change! And don't feel too bad about watching telly or reading mag while baby asleep on you (if you can, ifits your first). Its one of the nicest feelings I think!!

also, try swaddling. You need to get the technique right but it does work...

meant to be clear: stop trying to get stuff done! accept that you will be tied to baby for a bit, but it does change. soon they are much more able to be distracted while you wash-up etc. Seriously, my newborn has come as such a shock (reminding me as much as you here) as I had got used to my 2year old's independence!!

Use their sleep-time as your rest n relaxation time (or sleep of course). ENJOY IT!

PS (sorry) we must remember we are learning about our babies and what works for them. so that takes time but we will be able to settle them elsewhere at some point (in hazy memories I know that I've done it before somehow...)

I don't think so, you should probably leave the arms free though... I've considered starting our DD on it and she's nearly 12 weeks!

Mummy2bsoon have exactly the same with DS (8 weeks). He wakes if he falls on the bed and I move away from him (apart from one nap where he'd been asleep for ages. I can't go on like this as I have a toddler to look after too... feeling a big desperate about what to do (to put it mildly!)

just read this and wondered if anyone knows when it's okay to swaddle until? Some books say 6 weeks and some 3 months and then recently I saw a programme with much older babies still swaddled. I know there are thought to be health issues - not good for their hips after a certain point. Anyone have some advice about this

They both spread the baby's weight across your back and shoulders. I carried my baby around in his kari-me till he was about 20lbs, and have now moved up to a non-stretchy wrap which is better for heavier babies.

With a wrap sling there are lots of different ways of tying them, and I know you can do it one way so you can gently wriggle the sleeping baby from your breast up to an upright carry, retie the sling and get on with whatever you want to do! (I recommend mumsnetting!)
