Bit worried as he never usually naps during the day unless held or in the buggy and even then usually cries before falling asleep. He has also already napped today for about 90 minutes, again without crying. Concerned something is wrong as he has a cold though dr checked it out and said he was ok. Could this be the beginning of him napping without crying? We started a new regime of putting him to bed then soothing him until he falls asleep although letting him cry a bit - previously we always held him or fed him to sleep. Could he be learning to fall asleep by himself?

Could be, I know that my ds was about that age before he would sleep in the cot I used to spend ours walking round the street or in the car just so that he would sleep

My 7 week old dd had never falled asleep on her own until yesterday! I tried her again today in her cot and she did it again!! I am so proud!

Each of my DDs when very young was always a bit more sleepy during the day when they had a cold. DD3 (19 months) fell asleep on the floor watching her fave tv programme lst week when she had a cold (she has never done this before or since). Pretty normal behaviour for your lo then i think! I wouldn't get your hopes up unfortunately, as it might not last beyond the cold. Then again, you never know.
