ds 22mths has started rambling for around an hour after being put to bed. is this normal?

ds is, generally, a great sleeper but just recently he has begun rambling, calling out, whittering on (very cute ) for anything up to an hour after being put down. he doesn't seem unhappy and often just speaks to himself or noddy or ducky (his bedtime companions!) Thing is I cannot switch off until he s sound asleep and he is still waking at the normal time the next day which leaves him tired and tetchy. Tell me this is just a phase?????????? I don't want to starte responding to his calls for me as he doesn't seem distressed and I don't want to create a habit that I later regret iyswim. Any one????

my 19month dd has just started being a pain in the bum,
normally great sleeper! goes to bed 7pm normally, shes been walking a week now and its turned her into a toddler , gone has the good baby that went to bed at 7pm,
she now realises no one else is in bed and creates to get up for another hour, hate giving in but have to in the end!!! tomoz i'm waking her up early so she sleeps earlier in day and goes to bed early!!! i'm sure your ds has just found his voice and having fun chatting to his lil friends!

Cruisemum - is perfectly normal. My DS started doing that at around 20 months - is now 2years 3 months and occasionally does it. Is no harm in it (I think of it as him burbling himself off to sleep) - though if he's still going after 40 minutes or so, I tend to go in and gently remind him it is sleep time now, give him a kiss and resettle him in his cot and he goes straight off to sleep...

If I go into my 20 month old to tell her to go to sleep - she screams the place down, may work for your child though. I just leave her to it. She sleeps eventually I think sometimes she has overslept during the day and she isn't that tired when I put her to bed at her normal time. Switch the monitor off and have a glass of wine.

i've decided to buy a black out blind tomoz as its just not dark enough in there! tonight 2 hours later she was still making noises, crying on and off, she came down stairs for 5 mins, i put her back up and she went to sleep??!!!

dinky/tapster (i remember yhou from another thread tapster - was it SIFTW???). I have been in a couple of times and he doesn't make a fuss when i leave or anything but i don;t want this to be our new bedtime routine! I preferred the old way when i put him in his cot and he went to sleep. He can keep chattering for a good hour some nights! I just can't switch off until he's stopped rambling. "It's just a phase, it's just a phase, it's just........."

My ds2 (almost 2) rambles before going to sleep...round the room! Crash, bang, wallop! He even painted himself the other night with ds2's airfix model paints

He is getting quicker at going to sleep, but like you I cannot relax until I know he is asleep.

It is a phase [crossed fingers]

wallace - lol at your lo's antics! ds is not yet in a bed so there is no escape for him - yet! my ds seems to be disecting the day by ramblng on about it. it is very cute and amusing but hoping it will pass soon....
