How long should I let my 12 week old sleep?

We've been having real trouble getting him to sleep at bedtime this week. His daytime naps are fine, he can settle himself within 10-20 minutes with a small amount of crying (I'm in the room with him) and bedtime at around 7.30 after a bath was ok, but more of a struggle (about half an hour to 45 minutes before he'd settle). The problem is for the last week he's been fighting sleep at bedtime, and screaming inconsolably and it either ends up with me bf him to sleep or getting him back up with us in the living room till he's calmed down. Last night he finally went to sleep at 10.00, slept till 5.30, fed, went back to his cot and is still asleep now (9.45am) While I am in no way complaining about this - should I wake him up? Am I messing with his daytime hours? Sorry this is long, but I'm finding bedtimes sooo stressful at the moment.

I think when he's still so small, you shouldn't worry for most of the day, but have a cut off time - say 5pm? 4.30pm? - when you need to wake him up and keep him awake and stimulated for the next couple of hours, before he goes to bed.
