Did you notice a big difference going from a king to super king bed?

A couple of years ago we went from a double to a king, paid a pretty penny for a decent mattress and now I want a superking as I don’t feel king is big enough, I keep looking at the emperor beds but I wouldn’t be able to fit wardrobes in the room if I did that (no where else to put them).

I’m 5ft 3 and a size 12-14 and DH is 6ft and normal weight/build not underweight and not overweight and I’m still struggling with his constant moving legs, arms, hands in his sleep. I love a big luxurious bed. It’s something km willing to spend money on but DH is telling me to suck it up because we spent £3k on a mattress just shy of 2 years ago with a 10 year guarantee.

Is it worth losing out on the money we paid for our mattress to upgrade to a superking or is there not actually that much difference?

The problem might be the way DH occupies the bed. In which case he will just expand into the extra space. Maybe book a hotel room with a larger bed for the night to check what difference it makes.

We bought a superking, as we had a baby that would not sleep in his crib or Moses basket. He’s 25 now and has left home, DH & I still have a superking bed, we put a king size in a holiday home, really noticed a difference, if you have space for superking, buy one you won’t regret it.

Twin beds are the way to go! Dh was always wadding the duvet up between us, he says unconsciously. He couldn't relax I felt smothered. We got twin beds and now sleep mostly like babies.

Whatshitnow · 29/10/2026 17:38

You can fit 2 single size mattresses onto a super king bed frame. The benefit is you can't feel each other turning over/fidgeting. Two single duvets so no hogging. Its good if one of you runs warmer, also.
If he flings his arms and legs about though, thats a different problem. 😏

I have a king size, bf has super king. And yes you can tell the difference. I’m sure on paper it’s only something like 30cm difference but it’s worth it. We are looking to buy together soon and one of the must haves is a room big enough to have his bed 😂

Separate rooms are even better if you have the space !

We had a super king. I'm 6ft and DH is 6ft4.

We moved and couldn't take it with us and are now stuck in a queen, until we can afford to upgrade again. I miss our bed!

Skdkhvyvrhej · 29/10/2026 17:50

Huge difference imo

SweatySpider321 · 29/10/2026 17:51

It was a great change for us! We also charged to a double duvet each, as my husband is a serial duvet hogger so we used to tussle over it in the night

whodoyouthinkknew · 29/10/2026 17:58

We have two zip and link single beds (hotel style) and it's been a game changer. Definitely much better than a king or even a super king-size bed.

IcedIslandLongTea · 29/10/2026 18:01

Yes, the bedding was really expensive and didn’t fit in our titchy washing machine.
I found it colder too, DH worked away a lot so often it was just little old me!
We left it when we moved, our current bedroom is longer but narrower and at the moment has fitted wardrobes at the end of the bed. DH wants to remove them and get another SK but I’m not bothered.

Myremoteislost · 29/10/2026 18:01

We love our super king, although DH still tends to end up on top of me in the night. He likes to be close and I like my space so I think we'd have that problem in any bed. On holiday we usually end up with a double and it's awful.

Hummingbirdz · 29/10/2026 18:02

I swapped to a Superking from a king for the same reasons. It does make a huge difference but I hate the mattress and base of the bed so that's not great.

elm26 · 29/10/2026 18:06

Don't have a spare room unfortunately! DD is getting in with us at the moment as she’s not well and I end up going into her single bed as DH sleeps like the dead (why do men get all the luck 😒😂).

I dont know how he chucks himself about so much and still seems well rested, every night I end up with either an arm or hand draped across my face or his legs over my side and he’s sleeping diagonally, he also has an annoying tendency to wrap the cover round him then rolls to front sleep so the duvet goes with him which leaves me freezing in the winter.

Okay, with all of your help, I’ve just convinced myself we need the super king with separate duvets, is it absolutely ridiculous to give my 3 year old DD our king with the mattress? At least it’ll last her 😂 I can’t imagine her weight would mean after another 8 years it’ll need replacing? Surely.

We switched to two single duvets a couple of years ago after experiencing it on a scandi trip.

Its amazing, made so much difference. Best thing we ever did

Definitely try two duvets before you take drastic bed & bedding buying action.

elm26 · 29/10/2026 18:08

This is us @Myremoteislost! I love a quick snuggle or
spoon, a goodnight and off to my edge I go lol. Can’t stand being breathed on in the night I’m so romantic can’t you tell 😂

i have a king. DH now has his own bed in another room and we now get some sleep.
I am always hot, fidget, like to go to sleep early, but then wake up for a while in the early hours. DH likes to stay up
late and watch the TV as he falls asleep, prefers a thick duvet and gets up early for work. So this is a perfect solution for us.

On holiday we always try to pick hotels or apartments with large beds. We can still share a king if we have to. Earlier this year we were in Scandinavia and the 2 duvet idea was perfect.
