Hi everyone,
Im posting as I would like some advice as Im super tired and not sure I can continue with the current nightly wake ups.
DD 2 is 9 months shes a content and happy baby during the day but at night seems to be unable to self settle.
Current routine
7am wake up
7:30- bf
8:00- breakfast she loves her food and eats a lot still manages to decorate the floor too though😂.
8:30ish- play
9:30-11:00- nap 1
11:00- play
11:30- bf
12:00- lunch
12:30-1:30- outing/activity/ walk
1:30-3:00- nap 2
3:30- snack and bf play time
5;00- dinner
6:00- bath, lotion, story
6:45-7:00- bed
For a while this was working with small blocks of sleep 2- 3 hours waking up usually trying to latch.
Now she seems to be up sometimes every 30 minutes to an hour sometimes the minute I place her in the cot she wakes and is upset. The room has a black out blind, white noise playing and she also has a dummy and we make sure the room is cool. Dh and I sleep in this room.
If I pick her up and cuddle her she will fall asleep on me. She is currently asleep on me atm as its the only way she will settle but as a result im getting very little sleep at night as I am not very comfortable with co- sleeping.
Any advice?
Possibly considering moving to her own room but not sure if shell just continue to wake constantly.
Does switching to formula help? Lots of people I know seem to think she can smell the milk.
DH often works nights so its not always an option for him to settle her.

It can't hurt to try moving her to her own room. You can always move her back.

Maybe teething pain is bothering her?

Formula doesn't usually make a difference. Especially at 9 months. Your supply will be well established and you can always offer more food. We would do porridge with lots of peanut butter and mashed banana mixed in right before bed.

It's hard when you're in the thick of it, but (like with most baby behaviour) it's just a phase. An exhausting, frustrating phase, but it won't last forever. Unfortunately, the answer is often just time. Their sleep habits naturally change so much over the first year.

For us, it drastically improved at around 12 months.

You said she wakes up as soon as you put her down in her cot. Maybe start trying to put her in when she’s drowsy but not asleep. When she wakes up and you’re not there she doesn’t know how to self settle and is probably a bit freaked out as you were there when she fell asleep!

And moving to her own room might also help. Instead of picking her up, try some ssssshing and patting to try and settle her back down.

You could be aiming for too much sleep and she doesn't need as much any more. Three hours of daytime sleep plus 12 hours at night is a lot of sleep for her age (average sleep needs for a 4-12 month old is 12-15 hours over 24 hours so you are aiming for the very top of that range).

Personally, before trying anything else I would make a change to reduce her amount of sleep e.g gradually pushing bedtime back by small increments until you have maybe an 8pm bedtime and see how she does with that.
