21 month old has suddenly become a bad sleeper !

My 21 month old has been a really good sleeper since we came out of the 4 month sleep regression - aside from a handful of occasions he has always been happy to go down to sleep, always self soothed, loved his cot & was always on the higher end of the sleep need spectrum.

Last month that all changed - he won’t nap in his cot at all, is waking up super early and bedtime has become a total battle.

Tonight he refused to go to sleep and after an hour he laid down on the floor with me and fell asleep instantly. He hasn’t fallen asleep with me since a tiny baby!

I’ve read a few threads on here that encourage dropping the nap but I don’t think that’s the answer here as he exhibits all his sleepy cues around lunchtime and will fall asleep anywhere except his cot!

I’ve shortened his nap and pushed his bedtime back but nothing is helping the early wake ups and the resistance to the cot.

Has anyone experienced this and if so can I get my boy back to loving his sleep ?!?

why not get a floor bed instead, we switched at 12 months and it’s been great as you can lie / sit with them in the bed. Mine is 22 months and massively nap reluctance - we usually do a short one in car or buggy, but sometimes skip and do early bedtime.
