Bedtimes a nightmare now ds can climb out of his cot

AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

We have tried putting him in a proper bed but he won't stay in that either (of course...)

Any advice appreciated. He is 22 months and used to go to sleep really nicely by about 7pm. Now it isn''t til after 9pm and I eventually end up breasfeeding him to sleep lying down in his bed!

stairgate against his door, duvet, blankets and quiet toys on his floor and leave him to it. he will fall asleep soon enough. thats what i did with dd1 and my mum with me, runs in the family maybe?

I had this problem.

I found that a move to a big bed helped a bit as he could climb back into that where he couldnt get back in the cot once he was out.
Stairgate on door and just leave him be. If he yells and makes a fuss then go back up and put him back in bed. Tell him its the last time you will tuck him in and give him a kiss. If he gets up again put him back in silence, no kiss. Repeat as many times as necessary!

It doesnt take longer than a few nights to get the message, honestly!

It was easier tonight But only because he was so tired he flaked out during a bf!

Dh has started to put up a stairgate, but hasn't quite finished

I guess I will have to do the returning him to bed thing, but I don't have the enegry!
