my DS is 2 and still in his cot

no intention of moving him

he can't get out, and so far i like it that way

DD went into a toddler bed (small room so small bed) at 18 months. By then she hated her cot.

GordontheGopher · 29/05/2008 21:17

DS is now in his at 2. But tbh I wish I'd kept him in his cot - he's turned into a little monkey!

crikey
ds1 was never in a cot
dd bed just before 2nd birthday but she was not walking and had tactile issues re cot bars. ( minor SN)
ds2 is 14 mths and man am I keeping him contained for a looooooong time

lucykate · 29/05/2008 21:19

both ours moved from cot to full sized single bed at the age of 2. ds is a climber, and could get out of the cot, i was worried about him hurting himself and felt he was actually safer in a bed

fishie · 29/05/2008 21:20

depends on set up. ds in our bed till 9m, in cot till 2 then into own bed own room. but still often arrives at 3am (he is 3)

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 21:21

I had to move dd1 into her bed just before she turned 2 as she wrecked her cot - wee madame

I bought one of those IKEA beds which folds up at both ends and put a mesh bed guard on the side so it had no open sides iyswim?

she's been fantastic in it bless her

dd2 just turned 2 will be going into the toddler bed in a few months once dc3 arrives and outgrows moses basket - am not so sure it will go so well as she is a determined wee monster

nephew was in his till be was about 4 but they have no more kids

I think the longer the better for the sake of your sanity but if the move has to be done then it is managable

pavlovthecat · 29/05/2008 21:21

Not yet for my DD, she would run riot!

Divastrop · 29/05/2008 21:21

my ds1 was in a bed at 12 months, just a normal single bed as well.

dd1 was in a tddler bed at 18 months,ds2 at 21 months and dd2 at 2.3 years(i couldnt be bothered).

dd3(14 months) will be staying in a cot untill she tries to climb out.

bumbly · 29/05/2008 21:23

My DS was moved to a full sied single bed at about 17 months. It is a pine frame and really low to the floor, but he had the cot side cable tied to it for a while (standard bed guards wouldn't fit) then some cushions on the floor. He fell out a few times, but usually just went back to sleep where he fell!

davidtennantsmistress · 29/05/2008 21:23

today - am depressed my baby's in his big boy bed, but hoping it finally settles down again of a night as he's been totally horrid. he's 2.4m, and could climb out of his cot. (has been saying no no and get out when I've tried to put him back in his cot the last 2 nights so fingers crossed)

chunkychips · 29/05/2008 21:31

It doesn't really matter, whenever you think you're ready. If they start trying to climb out it can be dangerous, but ds never did so he was in it until about 3 I think. So much easier. Couldn't imagine dd being in a bed yet, (16 months) she'd be wandering round, falling out etc. She moves round a lot in her sleep.

mawbroon · 29/05/2008 21:53

I would say that they should make the swap when they are ready and like every other parenting decision, it will vary hugely from child to child.

My ds is 2.7 and around 5 months ago, we took the sides of the cot bed and put up a bedrail. He hated it and we put the cot back up. I recently tried him in a big bed at my mum's house and it was a disaster, so I reckon he isn't ready yet.

I am going to keep him in the cot until he asks or somehow shows me that he's ready for the big bed.
