BF baby wakes at 9.30pm every night apparently hungry. Habitual waking?

He is 20 weeks and feeds about every 3.5-4 hours during the day. If I try to feed him more often he refuses.

I generally give him his bedtime feed at around 6.30pm. Sometimes, however it has been 7pm or even 7.20pm like last night. However, he still wakes up at 9.30pm every night hungry and I give him EBM - he takes around 7oz.

My question is: why can he go up to 4 hours through the day but will always wake up at 9.30pm for his EMB bottle? It doesn't matter what time his previous feed is!!

This 9.30pm feed originally started out as a dreamfeed at 10.30pm but he has been waking up for it for the last 2 months. Any ideas why? Do you think giving him the bottle at bedtime would stop him waking up later for a feed?

After 9.30, he wakes between 1am-2am for another feed and that's generally it until morning (6am-7am)

Because if you're BF you probably have less milk at the 7pm feed and he needs to fill himself up a bit more before his long stretch of sleep.

you might even be able to squeeze another dream feed in there at 11ish and see if he'll sleep till 6 - but he might not so don't rely on it...

20 weeks and going to bed at between 6.30-7.30?

IMO that's amazingly early so the 9.30pm feed is a very reasonable request from him!

You're doing just great with him the way things are.

If it's not broke don't fix it - if you fiddle around you might make things worse....

Gagarin, he begs to go to bed at that time! He sleeps very little during the day so by 6pm he is desperate for bed. I've tried to extend it but it just ends in total meltdown so I put him to bed earlier.

I can't answer your question because my 10 month old is currently waking at 9-10pm nightly and insisting on a BF.

Once upon a time I would have fretted and tried to sort things out and alter routines etc etc. Now I know better then to argue. After my bedtime he gets whatever he wants provided I get more sleep
