Help! DS now waking every 30 minutes!

My 8 week old ds has suddenly started waking every 30-40 minutes from his sleep. We've always had a bit of problem getting him off to sleep what with a bit of colic but since we started him on colief that seemed to be better.
I've been told that he's probably coming into his period of light sleep and then wakes up, but no-one seems to know what to do. I've heard of crying down but I thought you shouldn't do that before 6 months.
I'd really appreciate anyone's experiences of anything similar or any tips/ideas as to how to handle this.
I'm desperate for sleep and as hubby is away this weekend I'm going stir crazy!

Hi again, just caught up on all your messages. Thanks for all your suggestions. Great idea about the swaddling, I've swaddled him from birth though. I found a great version by bonfit baby which has little wings that fit under his body and encasing his arms. It's great as it relies on his bodyweight to keep his arms by his side. All the other swaddling blankets I used he managed to get his arms free all the time. Unfortunately I don't think it'll be long before his strength overrides his weight and I'm dreading having to put him in the sleeping bag once this happens as his arms will be free. I tried it on one of his shorter naps and within minutes he was awake due to his arms banging against the crib.
Anyway, last night was better, slept from just after midnight till 3am ish then again till 6am. Today he's had a temperature and crying a lot particularly when feeding so I think he's teething!
