Transitioning from Co sleeping to next-2-me

We've Co slept with our 4 month old since they were 2 weeks old. It's the only way they would sleep.
But it's killing back/hips/shoulders being on my side.

Any tips for transitioning to the next-2-me please! Can I carry on contact napping in the day with LO or is an all in approach better.
For context we have to rock/shush him to sleep. He's not a fan of being laid down either also usually falls asleep upright against my chest and I then lay down with him and roll him onto his back.
When we try put him in his next to me he wakes up again straight away. 'Drowsy but awake' just leads to instant screaming too.

This was me! My daughter is nearly 10 months now and what we did was:

  • Wear a muslin/t shirt in my bra all day so it smelled like me and then tuck that in tightly over the mattress so baby could still smell me
  • Pop a warm hot water bottle in a few mins before putting baby down so that it’s warm for them going in so it’s not an obvious warm to cold change
  • Rock/cuddle to sleep then really slowly pop her down, I know people have mixed ideas on this but it worked for us. I kept my hand on her tummy until she was back in a deep sleep.

We kept the contact naps and still do keep them now, she likes the cuddles and it’s not forever.

Good luck! X
