HELP - 4 month baby waking at 3am!

I wondered if anyone has experienced this and any advice as we are on our knees, I’ve got mastitis and feel horrific and DH is trying to deal with work and a terminally ill mum. Up until 10 days ago DS would sleep 7.30-7.30 with around 2 wake ups for feeding (BF) and straight back in crib. For last 10 days he has been waking every day at 3am, cooing and gurgling and then will not go back to sleep for more than 45 mins at a time until morning unless we bring him into bed.

last night neither me or DH got any sleep, we are so exhausted and I feel so ill with the mastitis.

Are we perhaps doing something wrong, should I be making his bedtime much later?

He also barely naps for more than 45 mins 3 x a day so there is literally no respite and he’s not getting anywhere near the amount of sleep listed for a 3-4 month old.

any advice or positive stories that things went back to normal would be so welcome!

I'm afraid it's the hell that is the 4 month sleep regression.. it will get better. For now, I'd cosleep to get as much sleep as you can. They have a lot going on developmentally at that age and it can be very disruptive to their sleep!

If he’s cooing and gurgling he’s fine. Leave him to it.

7.30-7.30! you have been incredibly blessed!

Most BF babies wake every 2-3 hours for a LONG time.

Do whatever you need to get sleep. If necessary get DH to sleep apart so he can help after work . If mastitis doesn't improve please see GP you may need antibiotics
