Did you co-sleep with your newborn?

DS is 3 days old and wants to feed all night (and most of the day ).

In an effort not to spontaniously combust through lack of sleep, last night I packed DP off to the spare room (where he was joined by DD) and DS and I dozed / fed lying down all night. It worked okay I think - I got a lot more rest than I would have done if I were getting up or sitting up to feed him.

Is this an okay plan for now?

Is there anything I should know?

Make sure he doesn't get covered with the duvet

I did it with dd2, got way more sleep than I would have otherwise. Just don't drink or smoke or take drugs, otherwise you will be perfectly aware he is there and it'll be fine.

I would usually be asleep before she finished feeding tbh, sort of had my arm over and behind her to support her.

I co-sleep with my newborn, but I do not share duvet with him. I put him a bit higher up in bed than me and just put a light blanket over him. They can get hotter in your bed than in their own cot.

I dito what Fairymum said. Move your pillows and DP's off to the side so only about half is actually on the bed and place baby there between them, just make sure there is no visable gap by the headboard.
I have slept like this with all 3 of mine since day one. Too me it just felt so much more natural and night feeding and sleeping so much more easier.
The only thing i found as i was sleeping curled round them that i got pins and needles in the arm that was around them and in my legs, but alot more sleep as did my DH.

Yep me too - co-slept with all 3 of my children. With my last baby I kept the duvet away from me and used a light fleece throw to keep me warm which I could tuck around me, baby was in a grobag and like the others, I kept the pillows apart and made a space for him between them. Only prob was he would wriggle until he could get his mouth up against the pillow so in the end held him in the crook of my arm. You are so aware of them being there, even when you are asleep. Having said that, by the time my baby was 7/8 weeks, I was getting sooooo tired that I knew I was falling into deeper sleeps and so to avoid any risk I put him into a crib by my bed. Now he is bigger he co-sleeps after his first night feed, as I end up falling asleep whilst feeding him, and I have my arm under him with my hand holding the duvet away from him iykwim!
