19m old won’t sleep in his cot again after being sick - Help?

My 19m old has been an amazing sleeper since 9months. Yes of courser we have the odd night here and there but usually because he is unwell or teething. Last week I was away for a week on a work trip and unfortunately he was unwell. My husband would put him in our bed straight away and it seems he is now used to this?

He is completely fine now. Goes down during his routine as usual but wakes up screaming for our bed at 10.30pm. He has done this twice in a row now. I was up till 1am last night trying to get him to sleep in his cot. I tried belly and bum rubs, shushing and nothing worked until my DH wanted me to give in and he came to our bed again. I also gave him neurofen because he has molars coming through but that didn’t do anything. Any tips on going back to our routine?

we don’t have anywhere to sleep in his room to sleep with him.

Could you replace his cot with a single bed with a bed rail? Then you or your husband can get into bed and cuddle him back to sleep when he wakes up screaming, and then go back to your own bed (or, more likely, fall asleep in the bed with him!).
