10mo just wants to walk around cot rather than sleep

My previously very good sleeper has turned into a nightmare to settle, he just wants to walk around his cot and jumps up as soon as he is laid down, he can't get back down so cries and the whole process starts again. He is also waking hourly in the night, Any ideas? He is shattered and so are we!

My ds is just like this now, at 13 months. Haven't found a good solution yet except persevering, sorry! We just left him sitting up one night, then watched as he stopped snivelling, and his head nodded further and further down till he went to sleep and fell over!!
