My *almost* 3 year old keeps waking up in the night

Hi everyone,

Im just popping on here to get some advice and possibly some solutions to why my almost 3 year old is waking up in the night.

When he was a baby, he slept amazingly, up until he was about 2. Now, he wakes up around 3/4 times a night and wanting to get into my bed. Some may not see this as an issue, but for me it really is as he doesn’t understand personal space and I’m being kicked left right and centre throughout the night🤣

My son has been waking up most nights and he seems quite stuffy and has complained of a ‘nose blocked’. This originally started in the summer so we did the usual antihistamine in case it was hayfever etc which hasn’t worked. Finally managed to get an appointment at the docs which is scheduled for the end of this month as apparently it’s not something urgent (obviously, when you ring the receptionists see it as he has a common cold), I understand it’s not urgent but I’ve tried to get an appointment for 2 months now but finally got one so hopefully this may answer to his wakings in the night as well.

my son has mentioned that there are the typical monsters under the bed and he wants me to stay with him etc.

I just wanted to pop on here really and ask what sort of things people do for separation anxiety/fears in toddlers and how they would go about helping them in overcoming these difficulties.

thank you in advance:))

It’s really common, all 3 of mine would wake up in the night, want to get in bed with us, bad dreams, needing to wee all sorts of reasons it didn’t matter how good a sleeper they were as babies once they can get in and out of bed on their own that’s it. Our oldest is 12 youngest 7 and all 3 still occasionally get up and may even try getting in bed with us. 10 & 12 yos arnt too bad ( I say as I hear one of them heading to the toilet 😬) the 7yo who was my best sleeper as a baby will still get up 2 or 3 times a week, it’s usually that she dosnt want to go to the toilet on her own or it could be a bad dream. She also has itchy eczema so that can make her unsettled.

I’ve always found not fighting them is best, ok jump in quick cuddle then back to bed, even if I have to get in with them.

My 10yo has a nasal spray as she always sounds bunged up I can’t remember what it’s called now but her gp prescribed it to help clear her nasal passage, it dose help.
