Looking for some advice. My DS is 9 months old and by and large has been a pretty good sleeper (we’ve had a few months where he would often sleep 8-9 hours with no wake ups). Since starting solids his sleep was a bit disrupted, waking once a night but settling with a feed (bf).
Unfortunately the last month has been awful. We’ve had several weeks of different viruses/colds, teething etc. This last week he’s had a really bad cold and has been awake every 1-2 hours.
When he’s unwell I reason with myself that he just needs the comfort etc (usually goes back to sleep with a bf) but it’s been a week now with his current cold and if anything his sleep is getting worse even though he’s better in himself. He’s still really blocked up, so maybe that’s the issue (and I’m trying everything to help at night!)
I really didn’t want to have to pay for sleep training as I didn’t think we’d need it with him as he’s generally been so good but I’m starting to think we are going to have to. I’m worried that the weeks of comfort feeding at night due to the illnesses and teething has caused bad habits and now I’m going to have to try formal strategies to undo them.
Just looking for any advice or similar stories from this age. Did you have to sleep train? I really really can’t bear the idea of any kind of CIO. I’m just feeling so hopeless. He’s inexplicably been awake for 1.5 hours now, on our 3rd wake up since bedtime. He self settled at bedtime, so I’m not sure why this is happening. A month ago before all of this he regularly slept for 8,9, even 10 hours straight. Is there any hope??
