8 week old sleep routine - busy evenings!

Hi there,

At the moment my 8 week old likes to mostly nap during the day and then be awake all evening - mostly cluster feeding for the last couple of days. She does then go down usually for at least 6 hours then a feed then another few hours.
I'd like to ideally have her awake more in the daytime and then get into the bath, feed, bed routine.
Before the last couple of days she was a lot more colicky in the evening - so also awake - maybe I am just in a growth spurt cycle, as now she just feeds all evening!

Am I trying to start this too early and should I just be happy that when she goes to sleep I get to have a nights rest at the moment?
Or should I try and keep her awake more in the daytime?
Ta!

Hi Cath,

With my ds I tried keeping him awake in the daytime just lead to a very grumpy baby - and mummy. By about 5pm I was tearing my hair out and on quite a few occasionsjust handed hime over to dh when he got home from work and left the house !

When I finally realised that it wasn't working and let him sleep when he wanted, he fell into his own routine and by about 14 weeks he was in a bedtime routine of sorts and could be relied upon to go to sleep by 6pm until his middle of the night feed, unless he was ill or something else was upsetting him. I've done the same thing with my dd, now 17 weeks and she has found a similar pattern although I remember thinking at about 8 weeks that it seemed like the hectic evening sessions etc would last forever.

Also I still let my ds now 3.7 sleep for however long he needs to after his lunch and he still goes to bed at 730 - 8 and sleeps all night. I know I'm very lucky but this is what has worked for me.

Ta - will just go with the flow and see what happens.
Just had successful trip to cinema - saw Leatherheads but wouldn't recommend it apart from George Clooney being in it!
