Cotbeds, how long can they stay in these, 15 years...?

No seriously, my DS has a cotbed so its quite spacious. In theory we only change the head and footboard and get rid of the sides and its a small bed.

But he's a bit of a bugger at bed time and I can see him GETTING OUT, which I don't want.

He's only 20 mths now so would fall out if it were changed, so was planning to make the change at 2yrs.

BUT has anyone kept theirs in cotbeds for longer - and do they just throw themselves over the edge, if you do?

We kept ours till DD2 came along so DD1 was in it till she was 5

makew the change when he is ready or attempts to climb out of the cot part.

DS is 4 and still has the sides on because he is an absolute monkey and would be out playing every night! Need to make into a bed now though as he climbs out and plays instead

DS is nearly 2, and I don't plan to take the side off his cot anytime soon - basically, prob not until he'll need to get up in the night to wee. Have just given him a duvet instead of a grobag, and still have a lower matress position to use if necessary.

Am in no rush to do things.

My cot bed is still going 11 years on

DD moved out of it at 3 when DS1 came along, and he stayed in it till 6 ish when DS2 came along.

Admittedly he was getting a bit big for it by then. I'm expecting DS2 to be in it till he is 5 or 6.

Wow... we've have our moneys worth out of it !

Fantastic replies thank you.

He has always been climbing out - and now that we're on the lowest rung he's showing us that his toes can reach even if he can't manage it yet...

Will keep him in for a while then.

Also just got a duvet but seem to spend most of the night putting him back UNDER it.
