My son only seems to be able to fall asleep by breast feeding

My son who is now 4 and a half months old seems to fight going to sleep other than when I breast feed him to sleep when he falls asleep almost instantly. Rocking and singing and cuddling just never worked and as I was so desperate for sleep in the early days I just did whatever got him to sleep.

Now I always try to wake him up a bit before putting him down but he is usually so sparked out he barely opens an eye, he is a good sleeper now, once he is asleep and can settle himself if he wakes in the night so I havent really been that concerned. But as I dont want to breast feed forever I am not sure what to do. He refuses to take a bottle on the last feed before bed time and I dont want to force him.

Anyone else been in a similar situation and what did you do?

if your not wanting to continue BF, why not mix feed, but do the last feed of the night? I dont have much other advice as still feeding mine.

he'll grow out of it. settling himself when he wakes at night is a really good sign and when he is ready then he'll be able to settle down in the evening too.
You can always try just unlatching him before he is quite zonked, and let him settle by himself

What thisisyesterday said. They grow out of it. My daughter (19 months) was breastfed to sleep for almost her whole first year. One day it just stopped working and she is an excellent sleeper, never complains when I put her to bed and always sleeps all the way through the night unless ill or something.
