Does my baby need to drop a nap?

My little man is 5.5 months old now and has always been a brill sleeper at night, sleeping through since 8 weeks old.

Over the last few weeks have has started to wake up around 5/5.30, whereas he used to wake around 7am. My gut feeling is he needs to drop his 4th nap but the problem is that he will not nap for longer than 40 minutes at a time for the rest of the day. Sometimes he can wake from his 3rd around 3.30 and I think he would struggle to go until bedtime without a little sleep. The odd time he hasn't had a 4th nap it hasn't really affected what time he wakes up.

Do I persevere and drop the 4th nap and put him to bed earlier and see if it affects anything? I was reluctant to drop it until he started to nap better in the day.

Mine only had short naps but you might find like I did with mine that having a slightly earlier bedtime makes him sleep better. Though mine has always woke up at 5am😅

He used to nap brill. Would sometimes nap for 1 hour and 20 in a morning and then the occasional 2 hours after lunch. We could pop him in his cot, pat his tummy and walk away and he would drop off. Now he tends to roll around, grab his feet and shout for 15-20 before hand. The 4 month regression never his us, unless it's just affected naps!

At 6 months they have a growth spurt so you usually see them sleep more because you only grow in your sleep. Fingers 🤞 for you 😊
