5 month old thrashing in sleep

My little boy is just over 5 months old and has slept through since 8 weeks old.

After we put him to bed, he always self settles to sleep (unless extremely tired) and will sleep soundly for 40-50 minutes and then will thrash around for 5-10 minutes. Still asleep but he flails his arms and kicks his legs everywhere. He does eventually settle down and will do it again about an hour later.

I'm assuming it's as he's changing from one sleep cycle to another or active sleep but thought he might have grown out of it by now.

Does anyone else's baby do this? And when is it likely to stop? Every time he does it I'm on edge he's going to wake up as his eyes flicker open too 🤣

I know this is slightly old now but have things improved? My 4 month old still hasn’t stopped active sleeping from 10 weeks old!

Unfortunately not. He is now 6.5 months old and still does it. Puts us on edge every time he does it
