I am at rock bottom with my baby’s sleep. She’s always been a bad sleeper but lately things are getting more and more unsustainable. She wakes every hour or more and won’t go back to sleep unless picked up and cuddled. It is completely killing me and really affecting my mental health.

She is put down in her cot to go to sleep and doesn’t really get any help to fall asleep other than me being in the room with her. I’m trying to start this with naps too but her naps are terrible - short and she takes a while to go down.

I really can’t stand to hear her cry so CIO isn’t an option. Does anyone have any tips that helped their baby sleep independently? Or will it just happen by itself eventually?

Thanks for reading x

It will happen eventually yes. All baby sleep “problems” (most are normal baby behaviour) resolve. But the effect on you is something you need to think about. Look at ways to maximise your sleep… can you co sleep? Honestly it can be a life saver if it helps your LO sleep and you to rest too? Look up Lullaby Trust safe sleep guidelines. Can someone else help at night? Are you able to get sleep during the day? Can someone take the LO to allow you some time?
Alsp don’t believe everything you read online about baby self settling/soothing. Most babies are unable to do this till much older so don’t stress yourself and your baby out by expecting it yet. It’s ok to support your baby to get to sleep.
I’d highly recommend Lyndsey Hookwy on Instagram for loads of really helpful and informative advice on baby sleep. I hope it gets better for you x
