My DS 9mo sometimes shakes/rocks his head from side to side when he's trying to fall asleep.

Sometimes I try and hold it still, or stroke his head to get him to stop. I don't know whether to intervene or not. Often he goes to sleep without me in the room so guess he manages without me interfering.

I just worry its not good for his neck/head or that it might be his ears/teeth bothering him.

mine does. i remember the first time i saw him do this and i thought he was ahving a fit. he usually does it either when hes excited or if hes getting comfy in his cot.

Mine did it loads for a while until she had a course of cranial osteopathy treatment for feeding problems. Intially the head shaking got worse but now she doesn't shake her head in her cot while settling at all.

both ds & dd did this at some point (can't remember when) - both grew out of it

yep, dd1 and dd2 both did this....perfectly normal. It was always more so when being put down to bed. I used to think that it was because they could not use a pillow and were trying to get comfy.....
