Long morning nap - no sure if I should wake him to let him sleep

DS is 8 months old, he is sleeping pretty well at night most of the time so I am reluctant to change his day time naps incase we go back to the nightmare 4 times a night stage! but people keep telling me he is sleeping too long in the morning. He get's up about 6.30 and then goes back to bed at 8.30 and sleeps for 2 hours so until about 10.30 then he will sleep for about an hour at lunch time and after that stay awake until bed time - he seems happy with this (therefore I am!) and he sleeps ok at night but the HV and other friends are telling me he should only sleep for an hour in the morning and I should wake him up.

Sounds about right to me tbh.

He's happy, you're happy. Why change?

if its working for you and your lo then why do you need to change it? If at some point the day sleep starts affecting his night sleep then make some changes but if you are doing ok just now then continue with what you are doing. There is no law about when and how long a baby should sleep for so dont let others try to tell you otherwise.

My DS is 9mo and usually prefers a longer morning sleep. I've had the same dilemma but decided to let him sleep as i was worried he might end up having 2 shorter naps.

I think total sleep is more important than when. DS has about 14 hours in a 24hr period which sounds about right. How about yours?

i think the theory is long morning naps contribute to early morning waking - but if you're happy with 630 starts then no reason to change

DD2 (7 months) is the same we get up at 6/6.30am and falls back to sleep when we walk dd1 to school say 8.30am to 10.30am and then again 1pm to 2/3pm she is then awake until between 6/6.30pm when she goes to bed. She may wake about 11pm for a feed.

I will not change as with dd1 if she doesn't get enough sleep during the day she will wake every hour during the night.

As long as you are happy with her routine then don't worry about it.
