2yo sleep gone haywire after starting daycare

Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and can offer any advice or reassurance. My 2 year old started daycare last week and he has attended 6 sessions so far (he’s doing half days). Since then, his sleep has been massively affected - he has gone from being a pretty good sleeper to fighting bedtime and waking multiple times screaming and really distressed.

I'm putting it down to separation anxiety and adjusting to nursery as his behaviour has been challenging to say the least too. We sit with him whilst he goes off to sleep and go in and cuddle him then try to put him back down when he’s ready if he’s upset overnight as I think trying any form of pushing him to sleep independently at the minute would upset him even more.

Has anyone else been through something similar? Is it just a case of giving it time for him to settle and the sleep will resolve itself? I’m worrying we’ve done the wrong thing putting him in nursery ☹️

Something similar happened to my 5 year old when she started pre school and I think it was because she was over stimulated and just completely knackered from the school and adjusting to a new normal.
We became really strict with timings at her bed time- dinner, bath, 2 books in bed then lights off nightlight on with sound machine and off to sleep and after 2 ish weeks this corrected itself.
Keep your bedtime routine and it will get better I promise!
