4 month old self settles then screams every 2 hours

My baby is now 20 weeks old. Around 15 weeks he seemed to enter 4 month regression. Suddenly fighting sleep, clingy, fussy, whole lot.

I can put him to bed at night in his crib awake, and he happily takes himself off to sleep. No crying, perfectly happy. But after this he wakes up sobbing every 2 hours! If I pick him up he falls asleep instantly in my arms. I try put him back down and screams. And screams. My DH tried to resettle him for 90 mins and every time he hit the crib = screams, pick up and asleep in seconds. I can only sleep bedsharing with him in the crook of my arm, or breastfeed him sidelaying if he falls asleep on boob.

I don't understand why bedtime he'll conk out and self settle happily but after that all through the night he screams? Anyone elses do this?

Aww bless him. I think it may be because he's more aware of his surroundings when he first goes to sleep but then wakes up grumpy and thinks 'Where's Mum?' Personally I'm a huge fan of cosleeping but I know not everyone wants to do it, it just helped me get way more sleep when my baby could see me right there, open a sleepy eye then drift right off again.

That's the thing, even bedsharing or if I sleep with him literally in the crook of my arm he wakes on the 2 hour mark, looking at me and still howls until I either sit up and rock him or put a boob in his mouth. Twice a night he does have a proper feed but the others it's literally a couple of sucks to send himself to sleep then he's off and out and it's giving me blocked ducts. I'm happy cosleeping if it settled him but he still howls. Also his crib is a next to me and I have been awoken before by his hands from it in my mouth so he can see and reach me!

My 16 week old is the same. At the start of the night I put him in his crib awake and he will go off ... then wakes up every two hours (or usually less) and has to be rocked back to sleep. The other night it was every 40 mins. It's so tough!!

Mine is 19 weeks and we’re going through the same thing, I think it’s been going on about 6/7 weeks now 🫠 on his worst nights it’s every 40 minutes, a good night at the moment is every 90 minutes. I co sleep and makes no difference he still wakes.
I’ve recently had to unstable him so assume it’s a mixture of that and sleep regression. It’s so hard!
