Ds is 14 months and has never slept more than 1.5 - 2 hours at night without waking up. In the early part of the night (before midnight) he usually wakes around 4 times, and then maybe 3 or 4 times between then and 7 am. But for the last three nights, there has been a change. Since I have started giving him his evening meal at least two hours BEFORE putting him to bed, he has only been waking once between 7 pm and midnight. This is totally unprecedented. It seems to have affected his naps too, as he is now sleeping from 12 noonish to around 2 pm (again, totally unheard-of before). I guess his more settled sleep at night is impacting the quality of his naps.

So I can only imagine that stuffing him full of food and then putting him down to sleep was really not a good idea. (we followed a routine of evening meal, bath, story and bed before). He likes to sleep on his stomache, so I guess he had some kind of indigestion. I feel terrible that he had to put up with it for so long, but hopefully his sleep will start to improve long-term now.

Has anyone else experienced this?

yes, me!
mine was the same, and giving him his tea at tea time THEN half an hour before bed, giving him a bowl of porridge did the trick and his milk.

funny isnt it,

BUT then, he would get a tooth or a tummy bug and vomit and be up all night again....
